Used hearing aids :

The used hearing aids were started 20 years ago when people with hearing impairments were hospitalized without their hearing aids. There are two parts of this program. Firstly used hearing aids of all kinds are collected, namely, behind the ear, in the ear, in the canal, and completely in the canal. The hearing aids are inspected and if still it is viable, they are put into working order and given away. If the hearing aid cannot be repaired,
it is salvaged to a hearing aid repair shop to be used for parts and thus the association is credited for replacement reconditioned aids. Secondly, the used hearing aids are made available to the hearing impaired that has no other resources for obtaining an instrument.

Associations providing the used hearing aid

Many service organizations and associations run hearing aid banks and other hearing aid recycling programs. Like, The Lions Clubs, which nationally have collection, boxes in places such as libraries, optician's offices, and banks. The collected hearing aids are refurbished and provided to persons in need; The Knights of Columbus also help in collection of used hearing aids; Sertoma also operates a Sertoma Hearing Aid Recycling Program (SHARP). Some Sertoma clubs have recycling programs; if your local Sertoma club does not have such a program used hearing aids can be sent to Sertoma International's Sponsorship Department. Hear now is again a private, non-profit organization that provides hearing aids for adults and children who are legal residents of the United States, who are deaf or hard of hearing and who have limited income. Hear now is a provider of last resort. All other options for service must be used before benefit can be approved. Services are distributed through a nationwide network of hearing professionals. Providers are asked to waive fitting and follow-up fees for the first year of warranty coverage.

Conclusion

Hear now also collects old hearing aids for recycling. Donated aids should be packaged and mailed. These are tax deductible and are acknowledged. Used hearing aids are returned to manufacturers for the refurbishing and then they are sold by the manufacturers as refurbished aids.
