Information On Hearing Aids:

What is hearing aid?

A hearing aid is an electronic device that is battery operated which and also amplifies as well as changes sound to allow for improved communication. Hearing aids receive sound through a microphone which then converts the sound waves to electrical signals and for that the amplifier increases the loudness of the signals and then sends the sound to the ear through a speaker.

What are the different styles of
hearing aids?

In general, there are 4 basic styles of hearing aids and they are Behind the Ear (BTE), In the Ear (ITE), In the Canal (ITC) and Completely in the Canal (CIC). There are variations on the four basic styles. Your hearing healthcare professional that is audiologist or hearing instrument dispenser will work with you to help you decide on the best style for you, based on your needs and desires.
BTE hearing aids are worn behind the ear and are connected to a plastic earmold that fits inside the outer ear also the components here are held in a case behind the ear. In BTE sound travels through the earmold into the ear.
ITE hearing aids fit completely in the outer ear and are used for mild to severe hearing loss but however this case holds the components that is made of plastic. This hearing aid is not usually worn by children because the casings need to be replaced as the ear grows and also it can be damaged by earwax and ear drainage as well as their small size can cause adjustment problems and feedback.
ITC is customized to fit the size and shape of the ear canal and is used for mild to moderately severe hearing loss. While CIC hearing aid is largely concealed in the ear canal and canal aids may be difficult for the user to adjust and remove or even may not be able to hold additional devices only due to their small size.

What questions to be asked before buying hearing aids?

Before you buying hearing aid you should ask your audiologist important questions such as are there any medical or surgical considerations for your hearing loss, which design is best for your hearing loss, what is the total cost of the hearing aid, is there a trial period to test the hearing aids and what are the fees for it, how long is the warranty and can it be extended?
