Hearing aids

Hearing is one of the most important attributes that humans have with them. Through our hearing we are able to communicate verbally and set our society up with distinct audio tones that would help with everyday life. About thousands of children are deaf by age three that can result from hereditary problems or can be caused by premature birth or other pregnancy risks, such as rubella. Among adults, hearing loss has happened to increase gradually. Some develops as age-related hearing
loss, while other occurs from viral infections of the inner ear or from repeated damage in professions that have high noise surroundings. Unfortunately for some, hearing loss deprives them of the ability to hear clearly, thus depriving some with luxuries that others take for granted. There is a complete range of tests that can be done to determine how much hearing loss you have suffered. Most of these tests are conducted by an audiology clinic or the local hospital. Specialists who treat ear problems are often referred to as otolaryngologist, and they often perform a thorough physical test with the help of an audiometer to test the degree of hearing loss.

Selection of hearing aid

Hearing aids can be recommended only when the hearing test has been done. In the past several years' hearing aids have been able to aid more kinds of hearing loss than ever before. Digital hearing aid technology is provided as a huge benefit to people needing hearing aids. The benefits of the newest hearing aid technology over the old analog hearing aid technology are substantial. The newest hearing aid technology has the ability to allow hearing aids to be adjusted at the specific frequencies where one finds the need of the amplification the most. This is done through hearing aid channels and bands. The amount of channels and bands required in a digital hearing aid are determined by the hearing test and are selected by the hearing professional. The old analog technology does not allow for individual frequency adjustments. The digital sound processor chip, found in digital hearing aids, can give the difference between the speech spectrum and noise spectrum. This means that when we are wearing a digital hearing aid the voice of the person speaking to you will be amplified and the noise in that area will not be amplified. This combined with directional microphones gives greater ability to hear speech in social settings.
